Amarok

[edit] Amarok and the iPod Classic (6th Gen)
I have successfully made amarok and my ipod classic work together properly, it requires libgpod 0.6 w/ Amarok built against it. If you are running Fedora Core 8, you are in luck as at the bottom of this page is pre-built amarok RPMs built agains libgpod 0.6 pre-built for your listening pleasure.
One of the biggest problems was the new encryption method Apple put on the new iPods, however thanks to the ungodly smart folks over at libgpod that is no longer an issue so long as you run the latest and greatest libgpod.
Here are some photos of my success that make me even more happy with my new iPod, and I'm sure some of you guys out there will be getting these for christmas and don't want to be stuck with iTunes.
If you have Amarok already installed you'll need to wipe out your settings (removing ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok) and uninstall Amarok prior to installing the following packages:
amarok-1.4.7-13.fc8.i386.rpm built against libgpod 0.6.0
I simply, forcefully removed amarok (as it was the only package I wanted to remove and I would be replacing it anyways)
rpm -e --nodeps amarok
then I installed/updated libgpod
rpm -Uvh libgpod-0.6.0-1.fc9.i386.rpm
Then installed the new Amarok build
rpm -Uvh amarok-1.4.7-13.fc8.i386.rpm
I then:
- fired up the new Amarok build,
- plugged in my iPod,
- Amarok asked what type of device it was,
- I selected 'Apple iPod Device'
- I then made sure that I selected the model
- I could then add songs to my iPod and update artwork!!
I'll be adding more to thise How-To shortly, I just wanted to get something on the net as it took me days to get this working in harmony
